Amber Birdwell
My name is Amber Birdwell and I am a student at the University of Southern California. My major is entitled Global Geodesign and I study GIS/spatial studies, architecture, and urban planning. My Master’s degree will be in GIS Technology with a concentration in spatial analytics. My goal is to work with satellites with NASA for earth observations aiding humanitarian disaster response. My education has given me a very well rounded view of how communities function, how disaster affects them, and what changes can be made to prevent further damage. My specialization in spatial data and remote sensing will be critical in using information from satellites to make important decisions. However, I am also interested in NASA mission control operations which is why I was excited to apply for the Edge of Space Program and gain insight into mission structure as well as gain technical experience.
Outside of school, I am on the Latin and Ballroom Dance Team at USC and I am a leader in a Christian organization on campus. I enjoy playing piano and going to the beach. These weeks at the Edge of Space Academy, I have enjoyed learning from my fellow students as well as the professors who give invaluable insight into their career fields.
